BACKGROUND
Norquist has hosted weekly Wednesday morning strategy meetings in Washington since 1992 to coordinate activities to serve the conservative agenda. He worked with Richard Gillespie to draft the "Contract with America" which helped Republicans win control of the U.S. House in 1994 for the first time in 40 years—when Newt Gingrich became Speaker. He is a lobbyist focusing on tax reduction, a founder of the Islamic Institute and sits on the board of the National Rifle Association.
